Dr. Luis Mercado, FACC:

Graduated at Universidad Mayor de San Simón, Cochabamba, Bolivia in 1973. Post graduate medical training in Clinical Cardiology at Instituto Toracico y Cardiovascular, Cochabamba, Bolivia in 1977 and Invasive Cardiology at the Catolic University of Louvain in 1981. His current post is Head of the Department of Medicine and Division of Adult Cardiology. Dr. L. Mercado is instructor in Postgraduate medical education at our Institution. His main interests are selective coronary angiography, percutaneous transvenous coronary angioplasty with balloon, percutaneous transvenous mitral valvuloplasty using the INOUE balloon, endomiocardial biopsy and primary acute angioplasty for acute myocardial infarction. Dr. L. Mercado is Past-president of the Bolivian Society of Cardiology and Past-president of the South American Society of Cardiology, former Vice-president of the Interamerican Society of Cardiology, National Faculty for ACLS Program Courses and President of the National Resuscitation Council of Bolivia in charge for the diffusion of the courses for Acute Cardiovascular Care all over the country. Dr. Mercado has also been Secretary of the Bolivian Society of Internal Medicine and was actively involved in the organization of  the XVIII International Course of the American College of Physicians held in Cochabamba in May 7-11, 2003.
