POST GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION

In Bolivia, primary medical care in urban, but mainly in the rural areas, has the highest priority. However, it is also important to know, that modern medicine, requires highly trained physicians in special fields, who should be adequately trained and fully recognized.

Our Institution, since 1973, has been actively involved in Post Graduate Medical Training, initially in Cardiology and Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and since 1982, when the National Program of Medical Residency was established, in Internal Medicine and General Surgery. The training that we offer is only for three years; however, most of our trainees are sponsored for further specialization in specific areas upon completion of the residency.

In order to offer postgraduate medical training in Internal Medicine and General Surgery, we have a well-prepared medical staff and all necessary hospital facilities. Once the third year is satisfactorily completed, the residents are certified by our Institution and the National Program of Medical Residency and receive a Degree issued by the Mayor University of Saint Simon. There after, they are able to get the official Certificate of specialists in Internal Medicine or General Surgery issued by the Bolivian Medical Association and the Bolivian Society of Internal Medicine or the Bolivian Society of Surgery

All the medical staff involved in postgraduate medical education has a full time dedication and is recognized by the Mayor University of Saint Simon. Most of them, before completing their training in their sub specialities, were also residents at Centro Médico Quirurgico Boliviano Belga.

Our best-qualified Residents after graduation are sponsored in order to pursue further training in special fields abroad. Most of them have returned to work as staff physicians in our Institution or any other private or public Institution in the community.
